Initial Acupuncture

Description

**IMPORTANT INFORMATION PRIOR TO BOOKING AN APPOINTMENT: Make sure to check the details of your private health insurance to see if you have coverage for WESTERN MEDICAL ACUPUNCTURE. The Saskatchewan Health Plan typically will not recognize the training and title I have, so therefore they will not be able to reimburse you for the treatment cost.** Contemporary Medical Acupuncture is a precise peripheral nerve stimulation technique, in which fine solid needles (acupuncture needles) are inserted into anatomically defined neurofunctional sites, and stimulated manually or with electricity for the therapeutic purpose of modulating abnormal activity of the nervous system and/or the endocrine, exocrine and immune systems, in pain syndromes, functional problems, and any diseases in which these modulatory mechanisms are available. Neuromodulation occurs through neurological and neurohumoral mechanisms at multiple levels, namely: peripheral nerves, spinal cord, brain stem, brain and cerebellum. Try to arrive a few minutes early so that you can relax and get settled in. Eat a light meal or small snack before treatment. Acupuncture should not be done on an empty stomach. Make sure you are well hydrated. Do not consume caffeine or alcohol prior to treatment. Do not plan heavy activities post-treatment (for example, do not go exercise or schedule meetings where intense focus is required) as acupuncture is deeply relaxing. Many find that resting after getting acupuncture done improves the overall results of the treatment.
